a5c7b9f00b In the middle of the night, while waiting for a bus in a bus station, a lonely stranger called Mr. Smith sees a pregnant woman being chased by a man with a gun. He follows the couple, kills the man and helps the delivery of the baby in the middle of a shootout while a gang of hit-man tries to shoot them up. The woman is killed but Smith saves the baby, escaping from Hertz, the leader of the killers. Then he meets the prostitute Donna Quintano, who has just lost her baby, and asks her to breastfeed the newborn. They are chased by Hertz and Smith discovers the reason why the bad guy wants to kill the baby.
A man named Mr. Smith delivers a woman's baby during a shootout, and is then called upon to protect the newborn from the army of gunmen.
I dock this great little movie a point only for the jumping from the airplane scene. From the very start this crashes along like a ten tonne truck spewing bullets with barely a pause. Not much makes sense or has much basis in reality, although there are plenty of sly digs including quite a big one at the gun lobby, instead with just the minimum of narratives this blasts its way across the screen. Bullets, breasts, a baby and one-liners compete for attentionwe squeal with delight that at last a film that does what it says on the tin. For some reason I didn't take to the sky dive, it was no more or less nonsensical than the rest but maybe I didn't find itamusing. Anyway it is only a very short sequence and everything else, from the gunshot birth to the gunshot f*** is 100% guaranteed to have you grinning from ear to ear, unless, of course you have no sense of humour or think politicians and gun lobbyists very decent people. I guess too this being very much influenced by the action cinema of Hong Kong, Davis feels quite free to mix his sex and violence, not something US mainstream movies are usually very comfortable with. Great!
People who rate this movie poorly obviously do not realize that it is a comedy. If you go into it hoping for awesome action and realistic events, prepare to be disappointed. The entire movie is just completely ridiculous action sequences that not only would never happen but never COULD happen in any possible way. It'sif someone took every action scene that got cut from other action movies for being too outrageous or physically impossible and jammed them all into one movie. That is what makes it so funny! There were scenes with no dialogue that had me rolling with laughter. There aren't any dull moments either with someone getting shot pretty much every 10 seconds. The movie was not what I was expecting, but ended up SO much better. It's just plain fun!
It's all meantgory good fun, but once the novelty wears off half an hour in, the rest of the film is only meant for people who absolutely agree with Giamatti's character about that violence thing.
